Last season’s Causebox, came with two sample packets of green moringa and an avid green juice drinker myself, I was excited to try something new.
Turns out the brand Kuli Kuli is woman founded that helps support women-led farming cooperatives in Ghana, Haiti and Nicaragua.
To date, they say they’ve supported 1,000 farmers, planted 1,000,000 moringa trees and helped provide more than $1.5 million in income through their supply chains.
Go them for being an awesome company and kudos to their impact but please don’t judge me but what really intrigued me was their claim that moringa is healthier than kale. They claim that moringa is a complete plant protein, that contains all 9 essential amino acids and rich in iron, calcium, vitamins, and antioxidants.
So I switched out kale with moringa in one of my veggie drinks I like.
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1/2 green apple
- a squeeze of lemon
- a packet of moringa (here I normally would do a handful of spinach and kale)
- 1/2 cup of ice
Blend and enjoy. Surprisingly, the taste had a little malt flavour to it but it wasn’t bitter like the taste of kale can be and how the usual store bought veggie drinks are. You can tell you are drinking something healthy without it being overpowering if that makes any sense. As with most of my green drinks, it was an easy and fast way to get my veggies in.
As per usual, with any health claims consulting with your doctor is recommended and your own research. WebMD discusses it briefly here.
Now I don’t think I’ve had enough data to make a personal claim that is in fact that this is new kale for me but hey I’m all about trying new things and supporting women farmers while making myself a little healthier so moringa will be seeing itself more in my kitchen.
